Spendo Privacy Policy

Effective date: 29 August 2026 · App version 4.4.0+

The short version: Spendo does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data. Everything you enter, and everything the app scans, stays on your phone. We couldn't read your data even if we wanted to: Spendo has no user accounts and no backend server.

What data Spendo stores

Spendo stores the expenses, income, budgets, goals, splits, recurring bills, bank-statement passwords, and profile details you enter. All of it is saved only in your phone's local app storage. It is never uploaded anywhere.

What Spendo does NOT do

No account or sign-up: we never learn who you are
No analytics, tracking, advertising, or attribution SDKs
No network transmission of your financial data: the app makes no calls to any server of ours
No selling or sharing of data with anyone

Permissions Spendo asks for

Spendo asks for each of these only at the moment you use the feature that needs it, and the app works without granting any of them.

Camera: only when you tap Scan to capture a bill, receipt, or UPI screenshot. The image is read on your device to pull out the amount, merchant, date and GST, and is never uploaded. Spendo does not record video or audio.
Photos: only when you pick an existing receipt image to scan, or attach a photo to an expense. The photo stays on your device.
Face ID / fingerprint: only for the optional App Lock. Biometric data is handled entirely by your phone's operating system; Spendo never sees it.
Notifications: only if you enable reminders. Notifications are composed and scheduled locally on your device.

Scanning receipts and importing statements

Receipt scanning uses Google ML Kit Text Recognition, which runs entirely offline on your device using a model bundled inside the app. Your images are not sent to Google, to us, or to anyone else.

When you import a bank or card statement, you choose a PDF or CSV from your device. Spendo reads and parses that file on your device only. If the PDF is password-protected, the password you enter is used locally to open it; if you ask Spendo to remember it, it is stored in your phone's local app storage like the rest of your data. Statement files are never copied off your phone.

Instant Add (Back Tap and Siri)

Spendo can be opened straight to the add-expense screen using an iPhone Back Tap or a Siri Shortcut. These work by opening a link into the app on your own device. No expense data is sent anywhere, and Spendo does not listen to the microphone; Siri is handled entirely by Apple.

Backups and exports

The backup, CA export, GST invoice, and rent-receipt features create a file that you choose what to do with (e.g. save it, or send it to your own email or accountant). Spendo keeps no copy and sends it nowhere. Guard these files like your bank statement.

Payments

Premium is currently a free unlock, and Spendo collects no payment anywhere in the app. If a paid Premium is ever introduced, it will be processed by Apple or Google through their own store, and this page will be updated first.

Deleting your data

Settings → Delete account erases everything Spendo stored on the device, instantly and permanently. Uninstalling the app does the same. Because we hold no copy, there is nothing for you to request from us and nothing for us to delete on our side.

Children

Spendo does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children, because it collects no data at all.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Spendo ever changes how data is handled, this page and the in-app policy will be updated before that version ships.
